The football game was great.

The HD-3000 does quite well, thank you. Still....

All I did was unplug the analog audio cable from one sound card and plug it into another with the machine on, and now my HD-5500 seems to be fried!

The subsystem ID is now reported as 3063:5500, ra ...

This problem has been solved. Believe it or not, I simply wasn't doing 'modprobe tuner' before doing 'modprobe cx8800', and that's all it was.

The need to load the tuner module isn't spelled out ...

So you're using the atsc driver, is /dev/video1 being registered properly according to dmesg, is /dev/dtv created?

Have you tried tuning any analog stations using tvtime or xawtv on /dev/video0?

I'm confused... are you talking about analog signals or digital? You mentioned ntsc several times, but dtvsignal is only for digital signals.

Reading my post, I was worried somebody might get confu ...

Maybe I should also add, when I say "cable quality NTSC reception", I mean the old analog cable quality, like from 10 years ago.

Don't want to overhype the quality of this antenna quite that much.. ...

I forgot to mention, VHF channel 7 is normally so strong around here that tuners usually pick it up with no antenna connected whatsoever. dtvsignal shows no signal at all from this channel on the HD- ...

I've wrestled the build/install/load of the 1.6 driver on a 2.4.x kernel to the ground (had to install new module utilities), and the driver seems to load normally.

Now dtvsignal seems to be gettin ...

Also, I might add: Despite what the README says in the driver source, a cx88 driver is not yet included in "later 2.4 kernels" -- not 2.4.29 and 2.4.30, anyway, which currently are the latest.
