You have to tell it to remove the kernel modules before suspending and reload them upon resuming. This is how to do it on sidux; ubu may be the same:

Create a file /etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules c ...

i2c_transfer is in i2c-core.ko so I am guessing that you do not have I2C support turned on.

Thanks, tvtime is working for me now but there are some settings I need to tweak to get it to look right. Perhaps once that is done I will be able to tranlate my tvtime settings into mplayer options.

getatsc is a bit too raw for production use; it is really just intended for making sure your card works. I suggest dtvstream for the v4l driver or dvbstream for the dvb driver. Both of them work well ...
