What are you using to access the card? My guess is it is trying to use QAM_AUTO as a modulation type and the HD5500 doesn't support QAM_AUTO, only QAM_64 and QAM_256.

The HD5500 should be fully supported in kernel 2.6.20. Please do a
> dmesg | grep cx88

and post the results here.

Are you using the version of dtvscan that is specifically for the 2.6.18/2.6.19 kernels?

You can always grab the latest drivers from the linuxtv project by doing the following:
> yum install hg ...

Have you patched the driver for signal strength? The final signal strength patches were pulled into the V4L-DVB project just before the holidays. Try grabbing the latest driver from linuxtv.org

dtvsignal will only report signal strength for digital (ATSC) broadcast (hence the dtv at the beginning) if you want to grab NTSC video, use tvtime or some other tv app and tune in.
