Hi all,
I updated my Fedora Core 6 system today with yum, including a kernel update to kernel 2.6.20-1.2925.fc6 (from version 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6) and my HD-5500 had some issues. The /dev/dvb/ directory was missing completely, and my previously working mythtv digital setup could not find the card, although /dev/video0 was present and tvtime worked perfectly. Rebooting back into kernel 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6 resolved the problem. A quick google search revealed that at least one other person had exactly the same problem (though no solution). I'm not sure how to diagnose the problem, but I thought I would drop a heads up to those running FC6. I'd be happy to boot back into 2.6.20-1.2925.fc6 to gather more information if anyone has any suggestions as to how I might troubleshoot the situation. Otherwise I will stay with 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6 for now.
Cheers,
P.S. Thanks for sifting through all the spam to read this! |

Thanks. Although for some reason 'insmod cx88-dvb' didn't work for me, giving me the error:
insmod: can't read 'cx88-dvb': No such file or directory
but 'modprobe cx88-dvb' did work.
Incidentally, kernel 2.6.20-1.2933.fc6 which I tried today also has the same problem.
Cheers, |

I originally had modprobe, but I changed it during a massive surge of doubt. That's what I get for posting from a Windows machine where I can't double check myself!
Glad it worked out. |

Is the cx88_dvb module now loading on boot?
This used to be a problem in earlier versions of Fedora. I thought that it had been fixed, but it may once again be rearing it's ugly head.
Here's a link to an old post that describes how to correct that in FC4, I don't know if the same fix will work with FC6:

Edit the modules.pcimap file as recommended. |

This appears to be resolved with the update to 2.6.20-1.2944.fc6.
Thanks again... |
