gentoo ebuild needed?

Hello all...

I just ordered the HD-5500, and noted that there does not seem to be a gentoo ebuild for installing it yet. Is there any work on such? If not, I'd be glad to do the work myself as an overlay... I've done ebuilds before and they don't scare me (much).

I think that it is already available:
http://packages.gentoo.org/package/media-tv/mythtv

Why go through all the trouble. The Mythbuntu system runs great and is a lot easier. I really wasn't a big fan of any Ubuntu version, but Mythbuntu has changed my mind.

That's just a mythtv ebuild, not an ebuild for the HD-5500.

I'd go through the trouble because no other distro would work well for me. I've got a rather exotic setup where I'm running the OS on a flash drive with a unionfs over tmpfs (in other words, it reads the flash and writes to RAM), and it stores the recordings over NFS to a large RAID server. This setup required a lot of kernel patches, but I have kept an ebuild overlay to keep track of it all (makes it easy to rebuild at a later date).

Well, my card arrived today, and as promised, I wrote a Gentoo ebuild to install it.

For the most part, at this point, the hardware drivers are available in the kernel directly:
Code:

Device Drivers --->
   Multimedia Devices --->
      <M> Video for Linux
      [*] Enable Video For Linux API 1 (DEPRECATED)
      [*] Video capture adapters --->
         <M> Conexant 2388x (bt878 successor) support
         <M> Conexant 2388x DMA audio support
         <M> DVB/ATSC Support for cx2388x based TV cards
         <M> VP-3054 Secondary I2C Bus Support
      <M> DVB for Linux
      [*] Load and attach frontend modules as needed
      [*] DVB/ATSC adapters --->
         (empty)
... and that should be enough to get you rolling

The ebuild is for the tools themselves - you can use the card without this ebuild. Here it is (media-tv/pchdtv-tools/pchdtv-tools-1.0.7.ebuild):
Code:
# Copyright 1999-2008 Gentoo Foundation
# Distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2
# $Header: $

DESCRIPTION="pcHDTV tools for the HD-2000, 3000, and 5500 HDTV capture cards"

SRC_URI="http://pchdtv.com/downloads/dvb-atsc-tools-1.0.7.tgz"

LICENSE="GPL-2"
SLOT="0"
KEYWORDS="~x86"
IUSE=""

DEPEND=""
RDEPEND=""

S="${WORKDIR}/dvb-atsc-tools-1.0.7"

src_compile() {
        sed s/'$(PROGS) $(PREFIX)'/'$(PROGS) $(DESTDIR)\/$(PREFIX)'/ Makefile > tmp
        mv tmp Makefile
        emake || die "emake failed"
}

src_install() {
        mkdir -p ${D}/usr/bin
        emake DESTDIR="${D}" install || die "emake install failed"
}
