How to check signal strength live?

Hello,

I am having some poor reception issues right now, with only the NBC network coming in clear. Is there a way to view the signal strength of one or more channels, so that I can see how it changes while I try repositioning my antenna?

If it makes any difference, I am using Ubuntu 8.10 Beta, amd64. I use MeTV to watch television at the moment, as MythTV has always been more problems than it was worth for me.

Anyone know of software better than MeTV, but not as complicated as MythTV? I don't want a whole backend / frontend / database ordeal to mess with if possible. MeTV is nice, but it's Program Guide isn't listing any details, and I have never found a way to determine signal strength in MeTV.

I figured out how to check the signal strength with dtvsignal, but I had to guess on the channel numbers. How do I know what channel number corresponds to what network? dtvscan gives me numbers, but no callsigns.

My channels.conf for MeTV is:

Code:
dman@Farrell:~/.me-tv$ cat channels.conf

If you go to AntennaWeb.org and put in your zip code it will give you a table of broadcast channels you can pick up. If you look in the column marked "Frequency Assignment", you'll see the channel you should use with dtvsignal
