Not enough CPU? |

I was under the impression that a 3 GHz P4 had enough power to do software decoding of HDTV streams. Yet, when I play a recorded show, it plays for 3 seconds, stops 1, plays 3, stops 1. CPU useage for myth is 90%.
I have an SC420 with 2 HD3000's and an audio card. I am using the onboard video, which has no xvmc.
So, is a 3G P4 just not fast enough? |

The problem is the onboard video. No matter what you do, it just can't handle it.
Try using even the cheapest nvidia video card (you still have a pci express slot free) and the problem will go away.
While on this subject, I would strongly advise you to read the "myth-users" mailing list on mythtv's website. They routinely dig into video card recommendation thread.
You can "dremel" the pci express slot into so it would take pci express x16 cards. Some people have had problems with this. I own such machine (actually sc 1420) and have dremeled it, but never put a video card there.
