Hi all,
I recently upgraded to R5A16 and was able to get HDTV to display correctly with XvMC for the first time; I also got the HD-3000 configured properly as a tuner, and was able to watch DVDs as well.
Then, for some reason, the DVD started throwing I/O errors to the kernel log file. At first, I thought it was because I had checked the configuration option to automatically sense inserted media, so I unchecked that and even rebooted afterward, but inserting DVDs still results in I/O errors.
I then booted into R5A12 (I maintain a dual-boot system due to all the trouble I have had with upgrading, though I could never get R5A12 to display high-bandwidth video properly), and the DVD works fine. Reboot into R5A16, and it fails.
Which tells me this isn't a hardware problem with the drive or disc.
Has anyone encountered anything like this? A search here for 'dvd' and 'error' didn't turn up any likely suspects.
Thanks!

Of course posting the exact error messages is always a good idea. |

Scott et al,
Here ya go:
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady Seek Complete Error }
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: hdc: command error: error=0x54 { AbortedCommand LastFailedSense=0x05 }
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 1352
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: printk: 2 messages suppressed.
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 169
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady Seek Complete Error }
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: hdc: command error: error=0x54 { AbortedCommand LastFailedSense=0x05 }
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 1360
Jun 21 06:58:25 mythtv kernel: Buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 170
The sector goes up by 8 each time.
Again, when I boot R5A12, all DVDs play just fine, so I don't see how this could be hardware. And the DVDs we tried after building the R5A16 system worked until whatever-it-was happened...
Thanks again,
Charles Green |
