A better question is, do you need it [V-Chip]?

Seems to me, with anything that has decent login and shared files directories, the tykes would only watch what you put there for them.

Honestly, as a parent, do you want your children watching what the government says is OK, or what you say is OK for your children to watch?

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
Technology is not a substitute for parenting.
The nanny-state is not needed here.

It's just the RRT table anyway. Only the CEA is up in arms about it because [mostly] only the CEA members were dumb enough to hardcode what is supposed to be a dynamic table.

I fell into the same trap. My own program has the ratings hard-coded. It was easier that way. I'll have to change my code to handle any kind of new ratings.

I sure hope they increase the size of the table because 1024 bytes barely holds the current junk.

I want descriptors that say "HD", "SD", "5.1" and "2.0". I guess a lot of SD 2.0 shows won't get watched that way.

It would be easy to save the programs in various directories by rating, and just as easy to disable capture if the rating doesn't match some predetermined level. Like "HD 5.1".

The rating system could become a double-edged sword for those without HD 5.1 broadcasts, if it hasn't already.

Or the point could be moot when everyone has HD and 5.1 for everything. :>
