Adding pcHDTV support to AMICUS MythTV Installer

Hi,
I am writing a MythTV installer / distro for older and low end PCs. It is available as either a script for Debian systems or as a separate pre-loaded distribution (CD ISO image). More info on AMICUS can be found at the home page:

http://amicus.sourceforge.net

I would like to add pcHDTV tuner support to the AMICUS MythTV installer script. AMICUS currently supports MythTV PVRs with the BT8*8 and ivtv tuners. There have been several successful installs and I have incorporated lots of feedback from the early adopters.

Anyone with an HD2000/HD3000 and a test PC who would like to volunteer to help me improve AMICUS, please contact me offline. Even better, join the amicus-users mailing list at:

https://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/amicus-users

AMICUS is intended for low end and/or older PCs which may not be suitable for all of the HD modes. However, the HD2000/HD3000 do receive SDTV digital TV broadcasts which should be readily usable on older PCs.

Thanks!

Andrew Lynch

No one is interested? What a bummer! No matter, I would still like to add pcHDTV tuner support to AMICUS. How can I get an pcHDTV engineering development unit so I can add the HD2000/HD3000 support to AMICUS on my test PVR? I do not need it permanently, only a loaner and not for very long.

I am willing to walk new users getting their PVR systems up and running with MythTV if they are willing to work with me to get AMICUS pcHDTV support working.

I have experience configuring MythTV with pcHDTV HD3000s using KnoppMyth. I wrote a HOWTO on the KnoppMythWiki for on other KnoppMyth R5A16 users to get their HD3000s working:

http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=R5A16_HD-3000_HOWTO

I have already bought two HD3000s, which are full time dedicated to the family PVR but I cannot use them without losing WAF and that IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! I really do not want to purchase ANOTHER HD3000 to roll in support for the pcHDTV tuners in the AMICUS install script / distribution.

Please, can someone help me out here? Thanks!

Andrew Lynch

PS, the ideal candidate would be someone who already has a HD3000 but cannot get MythTV to work on their system. I have already done this for several new users and did this exact thing to get AMICUS to support the ivtv tuners. Lets make a deal!

I would be interested in helping out here. I have a PVR-350 with an HD-3000.

Hi again,
Well, I have borrowed a HD3000 and have added support for it to AMICUS. I have posted the first revision to include it on the AMICUS project page files download section. If you are interested, please give it a try and post some feedback on how it worked. Thanks!

Andrew Lynch

PS, I would like to add HD2000 support next as soon as HD3000 support is tested.

I have several hd-3000 and 800+ stuff lying around and in between olymics world series you can pay me to use my mythic Dragon hardware in a pristine startup state. And it may mean dollars or trade services or just a feel good donation. I send a few bucks to any site that is doing what I do.
Look at Mythic dragon site to see what hardware I have and pay many cents for me to try out your free open source stuff, even if it is a nickle or too if I am free. Jim

Hi,
I am not quite sure how to respond to this. I don't think I understand what you are saying.

AMICUS is a Free/Open Source project. It is 100% volunteer run. I cannot afford any commercial testers and besides, that is totally against the Free/Open Source spirit. We all contribute in some way and make things better.

Thanks for your interest.

Andrew Lynch

Hi,

Thanks to all the help from the AMICUS testers, I have finally posted AMICUS version 0.04. It supports the MythTV with HD-3000 set up and configuration.

I would like to test AMICUS with the HD-2000 if anyone has one and is willing to do some testing.

Thanks!

Andrew Lynch
