Digital works, no analog.

After replacing my motherboard and reinstalling Gentoo, I can't get the analog part of my HD3000 working. I load the following modules in this order:

Code:
cx8800
cx8802
cx88_dvb

I have the OR51132 based (pcHDTV HD3000 card) DVB frontend compiled as a module in the kernel, and dmesg gives

Quote:
cx2388x dvb driver version 0.0.5 loaded
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:01:06.2[A] -> Link [APC2] -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 217
cx88[0]/2: found at 0000:01:06.2, rev: 5, irq: 217, latency: 32, mmio: 0xf4000000
cx88[0]/2: cx2388x based dvb card
DVB: registering new adapter (cx88[0]).
DVB: registering frontend 0 (Oren OR51132 VSB/QAM Frontend)...
eth0: no IPv6 routers present
ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:01:06.0 disabled
cx2388x v4l2 driver version 0.0.5 loaded
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:01:06.0[A] -> Link [APC2] -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 217
cx88[0]/0: found at 0000:01:06.0, rev: 5, irq: 217, latency: 32, mmio: 0xf3000000
cx88[0]/0: registered device video0 [v4l2]
cx88[0]/0: registered device vbi0
cx88[0]/0: registered device radio0

So everything seems in order, from what I can see, but tvtime receives no signal from the card. Thanks in advance for your help.[/code]

You might try mencoder. Read the
NTSC Capture on S-Video/Line input n a PCTVHD3000
thread in this forum. It has useful information on how to get analog captures working.

Capturing would be nice, but I don't think I'm even getting a signal from the analog (NTSC) tuner. tvtime shows no signal and mplayer tv://10 just gives a green screen.

I tried cat /dev/v4l/video0, and that just gives

cat: /dev/v4l/video0: Input/output error

I don't think that v4l works. Try v4l2. Try the command line in the thread I pointed you at. Dispite the thread title I think that command line will use the RF input rather than the s-video.

Thanks for the help.

I tried the command, and here is the output:

Also, I think I might actually be using v4l2 instead of v4l already.

BTW, /dev/video1 is for the 2nd card. If you only have 1 card use video0.

Whoops! Thanks for pointing that out. The results were slightly different now. After a second or so the fps jumps up to about 5054 and it creates the output file, but not with any useable stream.

Those are the only differences.

I really don't know what to try on this anymore. I've followed two or three how-to's and they all say to do the same things. I think my card might be broken.

I went through your messages looking for things that are different
from my setup. NTSC recording works reasonably well on mine,
although any problems with the input signal get amplified.
ATSC is another matter. :-( I am *not* an expert on either the HD-3000
or on Linux (I'm a BSD guy). I don't know if these differences matter
or not. No warranty expressed or implied.

I only load cx88-dvb

> MEncoder dev-CVS-060217-05:46-3.4.5

I am using MEncoder 1.0pre7try2-3.3.5

> After a second or so the fps jumps up to about 5054

My script sets the fps rate, see below.

> mencoder -oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=128:vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=4000:aspect=4/3
> tv:// device=/dev/video1:driver=v4l2:norm=0:outfmt=yuy2:width=640:height=480:brightness=50:contrast=30:
> hue=50:saturation=50:adevice=/dev/dsp:amode=1:forceaudio:audiorate=48000:input=5 -o filename

How to you set the TV channel?

What is the input=5 for?

I haven't tried it, but I think
input=0 -> RF input (default)
input=1 -> Composite input
input=2 -> S-Video input

I have no clue what input=5 would do?

This looks suspicious.

Here is the mencoder line from the script I use.
It is for OTA NTSC in the US, and uses the RF input of the HD-3000.

My script sets the shell variable CHANNEL to the TV channel, e.g.
CHANNEL=2

/app/bin/mencoder -oac lavc -ovc lavc \
-lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=128:vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=16000:aspect=4/3 \
tv://${CHANNEL} \
-tv device=/dev/${DEVICE}:driver=v4l2:norm=0:outfmt=yuy2:width=640:height=480:\
saturation=${SATURATION}:contrast=${CONTRAST}:brightness=${BRIGHTNESS}:hue=50:adevice=/dev/dsp:amode=1:\
forceaudio:audiorate=48000:chanlist=us-bcast:fps=29.97002997002997:volume=100 \
-o $OUTFILE > $LOGFILE 2>&1 &
