I'm using a pcHDTV3000. I have this set up for V4L since I'm using analog. There is a bar of static above the picture and the picture itself is grainy. How do I tweak this?

*Note that's analog cable. So I don't really have access to any kind of antenna to adjust.

Maybe you are using the wrong frequencies? For US cable there is standard, IRC, and HRC frequencies. You could also try connecting a VCR into the composite or S-video innputs, if that works then it's some problem with the tuner.

I have MythTV set to US-Cable for the frequencies via mythtv-setup. I used to have a VCR connected so I'm fairly sure that it's a problem with the tuner. Are you saying the tuner is defective? Or just that the issue lies within the tuner? If so how do I go about fixing either.

It sounds like you might be using the wrong frequencies. As I said, there are three different sets used in the US. I don't use MythTV so I can't tell you how to set it up.

I suggest trying another application, like tvtime. Then you can switch between standard, IRC and HRC frequencies and see if it helps. You can also connect a VCR to the HD-3000's composite input, and see if that works. The idea is to try to do analog capture without using the tuner at all, that will tell you if your problem is related to the tuner or not.

Ok I've switched between HRC and IRC signals. HRC reception is black and white and IRC reception is exactly the same. Is there anyone using a pcHDTV 3000 card with an analog cable signal successfully???

By saying IRC is exactly the same, I mean grainy and the colors are off.

What do you mean by "analog" cable? You mean you are tuning via cable with the 8VSB?

I don't how you can use v4l with this card, nor do I know how to display the frequencies as used by mythtv. On first setup, I incorrectly selected v4l and nothing worked.

Are you able to use mplayer (with channels.conf)?

I'm using comcast basic cable (somewhat) succesfully via QAM, though I am getting a lot of glitches in the audio and video that are not present for OTA. mythtv can ride out the glitches, where mplayer crashes or fails to play.

Some of my channels.conf entries (Portland Oregon) channels.conf :

KWBP_HD:537000000:QAM_256:2048:2049:2
KOIN_HD:561000000:QAM_256:2304:2305:63
OPB_HD:621000000:QAM_256:4736:4737:60
DISC_HD:675000000:QAM_256:2304:2305:303
KATU_HD:627000000:QAM_256:2048:2049:2
KGW_HD:627000000:QAM_256:2176:2177:7

While for over the air I have:

KWBP-D1:587028615:8VSB:49:52:3
KOIN-D1:629028615:8VSB:49:52:3
KATU-DT:647028615:8VSB:49:52:3

It must work since you have it working Smile I guess this is the same as NTSC tuning.

I'd like to try it out, I'm searching now, but if anyone has pointers/information please post, both for mythtv and for stand-alone usage (via mplayer or such).

So it just uses the v4l driver and /dev/videoN, and tv applications like tvtime, or use mplayer tv://channel-number

I also got grainy video that needed adjustments in brighness/contrast and maybe saturation and hue.
