Folks, I am planning to build a PVR and I am looking to pull on the vast experience in this room for advise.

I have a samsumg6168 HDTV and I have the HDTV package with Bell. I am looking to build a PVR to record and playback HDTV. I would also like to ensure I can record one channel while watching another.

I am looking for advise on the following:

1) Hardware: video card, do I need a tuner card?, RAM, CPU, etc
2) Software: O/S and PVR SW (WIndows MC, Myth TV, etc)
3) Configuration: How to best configure to reduce costs, etc

If there is a good link or article already available that would be great.

Thanks in advance folks!

Hardware:
Tuner or Set-top Box with firewire out.
RAM - 768 MB or more.
CPU - At least a 3.0GHz (if you're using this for playback) or 1.5GHz (if you're just using for recording). Or you can also use XvMC or other hardware acceleration to offload onto a NVidia card which means you can get it playing on a 1.5GHz or so (although about 2GHz would be best, even with XvMC).
Hard Drive - At least 80GB (depending on how much you plan on recording and if you plan on compressing those recordings)

Software:
OS - Both Linux and Windows support HDTV, so it's a matter of which you like better. MythTV is the best for Linux and MCE is the best for Windows.
