I've got SUSE 10.0 and a PCHDTCV-5500. I'm installing the drivers off of the CD and following the SUSE 10.0 HOW-TO. The first time I ran "make" it failed. I tried it again, and got no error messages. "Make install" worked fine.
"/sbin/modprobe -rv cx88-dvb" and "/sbin/modprobe -rv cx8800" both worked fine. When I ran "/sbin/modprobe -v cx8800" I got the following:

insmod /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.10-default/kernel/drivers/media/video/v4l1-compat.ko
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.10-default/kernel/drivers/media/video/compat_ioctl32.ko
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.10-default/kernel/drivers/media/video/v4l2-common.ko
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.10-default/kernel/drivers/media/video/tveeprom.ko
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.10-default/kernel/drivers/media/video/cx88/cx8800.ko
FATAL: Error inserting cx8800 (/lib/modules/2.6.13-15.10-default/kernel/drivers/media/video/cx88/cx8800.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

"dmesg | grep cx88" shows the following:

It looks like you are loading the old versions of the modules.

I guess that makes sense since after installing SUSE I performed an update which included a new kernel. So how do I build the PCHDTV module using the new kernel? Any ideas?

Try a fresh reboot and see if the modules will load without error. Mixing old modules (in RAM) with new (from recent build) is the most common source of the "symbol conflicts..." errors. A fresh reboot will make sure that all of the modules come from your recent build.

That appears to have fixed it. I haven't tested it yet (no time now), but everything went well with the modprobes.

Thank you.
