I'm using an AMD Sempron 1666 mHz with 512 MB ram on a 333 nforce2 motherboard. My video is choppy and mplayer complains about my system being too slow. Is this true?

Please post your system specs here and say whether or not you've gotten your system to playback HD-5500-recorded HD media.

Tried the same clip on my Athlon 64 X2 with a pretty recent 256MB nvidia card with 1 GB RAM and... surprise... it played back fine.

(The audio isn't synched right, though. I have to delay it by .2 in mplayer to get it right.)

And upgrading my nforce2 machine (the one I mentioned earlier) to an Athlon XP 2500 (Barton core) was no help.

I failed to mention earlier that I was just using the nforce2 chipset IGP for video on that machine. Not sure what the memory is. Probably 32 MB.

Dual AthlonXP 1800+ on a AMD 760MP based motherboard
512 MB of ECC PC2100 memory
Nvidia FX5200 with 128MB

I can play back pre-recorded HD with mplayer without trouble. If I try to watch live, I can't use the Nvidia X server and thus can't use the XvMC extension. My systems appears to be just barely fast enough to watch HD with the NV Xserver and Xv.

-Athlon Xp - 1.837 GHz CPU
-Nvidia 5200 256 MB
-Mplayer compiled and using XVMC
-System RAM 512 MB

Results: I can watch live HD for about 2-3 hours without
issues. No issues with sync or skipping. After 2-3 hours I get the same "your system is too slow" message discussed elsewhere. My wife watched the world-cup using this rig without problem.

NOTE: I had to set the cache option to 81920 (that's right 80 megs) for it to work like this.
