I am having trouble getting PVR 350 and 5500 working together!

Here is my setup.

    Gentoo - Kernel 2.6.15-r1
    MythTV 0.19
    ivtv 0.4.5
    PVR 350
    pcHDTV 5500

I've had the pvr 350 working with mythtv for a couple of years now.

my PVR 350 stops working as soon as I install my pcHDTV card. If I remove the 5500 card then the PVR 350 works. I tried installing the 5500 in different PCI slots but same effect.

When I say my PVR 350 stops working, this is what I mean
Code:

ivtv:  ==================== START INIT IVTV ====================
ivtv:  version 0.4.5 (tagged release) loading
ivtv:  Linux version: 2.6.15-gentoo-r1 SMP preempt K8 gcc-3.4
ivtv:  In case of problems please include the debug info between
ivtv:  the START INIT IVTV and END INIT IVTV lines, along with
ivtv:  any module options, when mailing the ivtv-users mailinglist.
ivtv0: Autodetected WinTV PVR 350 card (cx23415 based)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:08.0[A] -> Link [APC3] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
ivtv0: Cannot request memory region on card 0.
ivtv0: Error -5 on initialization
ivtv: probe of 0000:02:08.0 failed with error -5
ivtv:  ====================  END INIT IVTV  ====================

ivtv loads correctly after I remove the 5500 card.

My ivtv under /etc/modules.d is as follows:

Code:

alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
options ivtv ivtv-debug=0
options tuner=47
options msp3400 once=1 debug=0
add below ivtv msp3400 saa7115 tuner
add above ivtv lirc_dev lirc_i2c

Has anybody got this these cards to work together?

Thanks!

This may sound odd, but your power supply might not be able to handle both cards in your system. From your dmesg output it appears the HD5500 is loading correctly even with your PVR350 in the machine. Could you verify this in Myth by seeing if you can get signal from the card?

Have you thrown this question over to the IVTV guys as well? dmesg doesn't show any conflicts or bad symbols which is often the first issue getting these two cards to play together. Also, the IVTV driver loads first and errors out, so there isn't a shared resource or problem with the HD5500 driver taking too many resources. You say you have tried it in mulitple slots with the same results so most likely isn't an interrupt problem. The error deals with memory mapping across the PCI bus so (to me) it is acting like a board problem but only when the HD5500 is present, which says to me, sagging power supply problem.

You could also try going up to kernel 2.6.17 and IVTV 0.7.0 with the pcHDTV drivers to see if anything behaves differently...

HTH,

Rusty

This thread appears to validate the idea of updating the kernel and drivers

Thanks for the reply.

I upgraded the kernel to 2.6.17-gentoo-r7 and ivtv to 0.7.0. still no luck!!

I also think it is not the power supply because of two reasons.

I removed a D-Link wireless card and replaced it with pcHDTV. So even before I added pcHDTV there was a card in that slot already.

The power supply itself is 460W. I have a total of 3 cards (pcHDTV, PVR-350 and nVidia video card) plus two hard drives.

I can signal on my pcHDTV card but the strange thing is ivtv thinks pcHDTV is the pvr-350. I say this because of ivtv-detect's output
driver: cx8800-0.0.5
card: pcHDTV HD5500 HDTV, bus info PCI:0000:02:07.0
/dev/v4l/video0: YUV encoding (links: /dev/video0)
/dev/v4l/vbi0: VBI encoding (links: /dev/vbi0)
