detecting encrypted stations?

Hey all. I'm in the home stretch of getting my MythTV setup going. I have an issue that I'm hoping someone could shed some light on.

I live in Houston, TX and I have Time Warner standard cable. I can successfully scan Cable QAM 256 frequencies and get signal lock. It's quite a few stations, though. Just over 600. I've tested a few of these just randomly with azap / mplayer to see which ones actually tune. I've hit a few and gotten lucky. What I would love to find is a way to somehow use the stream itself to find out if it's encrypted, so I can write a script to filter my stations. That way I can also check from time to time to see if any channels become unencrypted.

Is there any inherent way to determine if the stream is encrypted?

My atscscan program (links in the forum here) can output some more detail about what it finds The encrypted streams usually have a CA descriptor.
