Mplayer channel switching?

Is there any way to get mplayer to change channels? Long term, I hope to use MythTV, but for now it looks like mplayer is my best option for actually being able to use this card (had problems with Xine - I should probably go back and try again).

It would simply be nice to be able to change channels instead of having to exit and use dtvsignal to set the channel.

Thanks,

Kevin C.

I never got that far with turning the driver into DVB or something. That still seems like a better option to anything I've done.

You would probably have an easy time finding the code in mplayer and invoking a command like
Code:
char chchpg[1000];
sprintf(chchpg,"tune -q %s",channel); /* assuming channel is a string */
system(chchpg);

but use snprintf instead, etc. That way, it might work. You might have to have mplayer reinitialize the stream since it will be a different TS, program #s, etc..

It's a hack, but it might be a simple way now.

Also, you'd have to program it to choose useful channels.

If you just copy channel changing code from any of a zillion V4L programs, it's pretty easy to do, too, as a quick hack to mplayer. E.g., use tune.c, dtvsignal.c, etc.. There's some code in mplayer, but since mplayer is big, I wonder if reading its code will be as easy to understand.
