In the features of the 5500 on the website:

The card receives NTSC, ATSC and Cable/QAM Signals and converts them to digital streams which are transported across the PCI bus. Display and MPEG2 decoding are done on the host computer in software and displayed on the computers monitor.

The instruction sheets with the card seem to indicate that I access the NTSC analog only with /dev/video0. This would be unencoded? Just like a BT878 capture card? I thought it would encode analog like a PVR-250 etc in addition to it's cool digital stuff.

Thanks,
Scott

Nope.

Digital encoding of NTSC to transport across PCI bus, is not the same as MPEG encode digital video for efficient storage. There is no MPEG encoder on the card. ATSC and QAM streams are transmitted as MEPG streams already.

Sorry Sad
