Why does dtvscan return disabled channels?

I just installed this card on a brand new RH9 installation (stock kernel 2.4) and with the pchdtv supplied driver disk. The install was rather painless and straightforward.

Anyhow, when I run the dtvscan utility supplied in the pchdtv cd, I get:

Code:

WFAA-DT:      : 8.1 : 9: 1:0
WFAA-SD:      : 8.2 : 9: 2:0
WFAA-3 :      : 8.3 : 9: 3:0

       :      :51.1 :51: 2:1
KLDT-DT:      :55.1 :54: 2:0

Anyone know why there are 4 disabled entries above (those with a 1 as the last character in the line) in the output of dtvscan? Is it because the name of the station is unknown to dtvscan (I guess not in the signal?) for each of those entries/stations?

Also, I am able to record the content from those disabled stations by using the getatsc utility (getatsc 24 /dev/dtv0 > 24.ts) and I am also able to play it back (xine 24.ts). However, I would like to be able to watch the content live using xine. But I am not able to coerce xine into tuning to the content. I have the above channels in my ~/.xiine/channels.atsc file, as follows and still cant get xine to tune to station 24. Xine does try to go to it, but just displays a black screen and no audio. However, station 9, for example, works ok (although stuttery, I am looking into xvmc).

Best guess is that those stations have signal but no digital stream was found so dtvscan left them disabled. Your experience of enabling them in xine and still not seeing anything also supports this guess. Do you have USDTV broadcasting in your area? It could be that they are sending encrypted programs for their subscription service on those channels.

Well, actually, I know that there is a stream in those channels. I think you missed it, but in the original post, I mentioned that I am able to record the stream off of those channels using getatsc and then I am able to play back the recorded file in xine.

Ok, I figured out one of my questions.

I now know why xine was not able to show one of the channels. The data that came out of dtvscan for the channels which were disabled was not correct.

Below is a new copy of the correct stuff. Note that I have rearranged it a bit. I also manually disabled some channels that I do not watch.

I am still puzzled as to why dtvscan chooses to disable some channels... Maybe it knows somehow that the data it got is not good and therefore just disables it.
