HD-5000 on Fedora Core 5 - no output from getatsc

Hi All,

I have been trying to get the HD-5000 working on Fedora Code 5. I compiled the source off of the CD, and everything appeard to compile OK. From the start, dtvscan has worked. Here is the output:

However, at first dtv signal did not show any signal:

I did later get dtvsignal to work by:

This output is after reboot. Is my problem a kernel module conflict, or something else? If it is a conflict, can someone give me exactly what needs to be rmmod/modeprobe'd? I also tried "Watch TV" in MythTV. I would get a black screen for a few seconds, then it kicks me back to the main menu. After checking the recordings directory, I found an mpg with (you'll never guess) a few seconds of black screen. Any help is appreciated. Let me know if I did not provide the right/enough information. Thanks!

You do have a boot-up problem. The cx88-blackbird module is loading instead of the cx88-dvb. Edit the /lib/modules/<kernel version>/modules.pcimap file and put a # at the beginning of the line starting with cx88-blackbird. That should fix your boot problem.

If getatsc continues to not work, post exactly what you are doing to try to make it work.

dtvsignal and getatsc are still not working though. Here's what I get out of getatsc:

12.ts ends up being a 0 byte file. I have also tried several other channels. I forgot to mention that I'm executing everything as root. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Try the following and then post the output:

I'm a bit confused about what is going on. I can't figure out why dtvscan would work when dtvsignal doesn't. The signal detection part of dtvscan is almost identical to dtvsignal.

You're sure these are the drivers from the pcHDTV CD?

Try make clean && make in the tools directory, see if something was messed up there. I'm just kind of grasping at straws here because I haven't encountered an issue like this before.

From your dmesg output, it looks like the blackbird module is still loading at boot time. You can keep it out of the way by editing /lib/modules/<kernel ver>/modules.pcimap and commenting out the line starting with cx88-blackbird.

Make sure the card is fully inserted propoerly in the PCI slot.

I'll keep thinking about what else you could try...

Doing a rmmod didn't help.

I actually tried moving it to a different slot. No luck. Also, I repeated all of the above with the drivers and tools from the website. After all of this, nothing has changed. dtvscan works, dtvsignal and getatsc do not. Is there any kind of debuging code I can add to the tools? Could it be a hardware issue with the card? I'm not sure what else to try at this point. Thanks!

Edit your /etc/modprobe.conf file and add the line:

And post the output again (I think the backbird module is what kept you from unloading the cx8800 module in your earlier attempt. I have this card running on FC5 right now without any issues. FC5 should be one fo the easiest platforms to get this working on.

What is the output of dmesg after you run dtvsignal? The debug=1 should have turned on some more messages. Also try adding the debug=1 option to lgdt330x module as well using
