HD-5500 drivers dont load

I bought a HD-5500 because I thought it would have strong linux support.
(Does it?)
Oddly enough it works under windows. I can get about 3 stations in atsc format with a Radio Shack antena...

Was able to compile the drivers (after some fix in compat.h) without any obvious errors.

The drivers don't load. dmesg gives me errors starting like:

[17179586.584000] cx88xx: disagrees about version of symbol pci_bus_write_config_byte
[17179586.584000] cx88xx: Unknown symbol pci_bus_write_config_byte
[17179586.584000] cx88xx: disagrees about version of symbol pci_bus_read_config_byte
[17179586.584000] cx88xx: Unknown symbol pci_bus_read_config_byte
[17179586.592000] cx8802: disagrees about version of symbol pci_save_state
[17179586.592000] cx8802: Unknown symbol pci_save_state
...

There other posts about this, but none with any solutions.

I am using Ubuntu dapper
kernel:
knoppix@dapper:~$ uname -a
Linux dapper 2.6.15-25-386 #1 PREEMPT Wed Jun 14 11:25:49 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linu

I don't know if a driver is already built into the kernel, or how to get rid of it, if it is. (This seems illogical, at any rate)

The drivers are from the pcHDTV website.

If you did the "make install" step, try rebooting your computer to make sure all the loaded modules are up-to-date. Once it is booted, check the output of dmesg to see if your card was recognized at bootup. You can use 'dmesg | grep cx88' to quickly see if the HD5500 was recognized or see if the error messages continue. The messages you are seeing are saying that the module you are trying to load has symbol conflicts with a module already loaded, which is usually solved by a reboot.

well, if I do that I get exactly the output shown above...

It compiles, with no errors.
sudo make install installs, with no errors.
If I go into /lib/modules/2.6.15-25-386/kernel/drivers/media/...
the files are there.

I reboot and get the message above in response to dmsg.
What I would like to know is:
Can this be installed in any distros other than FC5 and SUSE 10?
Does it work there after updates to FC5 and SUSE?

I am having the same issue with a new 5500 card.

I have reinstalled Suse 10.1 several times, as well as KnoppMyth R5C7.

No problems with a WinTV PVR 150, BTW.

And what is with the wheezer friction coax extender on the 5500? That is a totally substandard fitting method, in my opinion.
