make clean doesn't delete v4l/.version which tells make what kernel version to build it for. This causes problems on systems that boot between multiple kernels. When running make on one kernel then switching to another kernel "make clean" doesn't delete that file so that make can re-evaluate the kernel version.

To switch between multple versions you need to do "make distclean"

Or use make release (see make help). This can also change the kernel used to a specific version or use the source in a specific directory.

I just found out about that by trying to change the Makefile.

The Linux kernel command "make mrproper" which is the equivelent of "make clean" deletes .version so(for standardization purposes) shouldn't the driver delete the .version using "make clean"? Just a question.......
