just trying to get the analog NTSC working for now. i'm in the states. Comcast cable.

dmesg shows a bunch of crap like this:
Quote:
tuner 1-0061: tuner type not set
set_control id=0x980901 reg=0x310110 val=0x7f00 (mask 0xff00)
set_control id=0x980902 reg=0x310114 val=0x5a7f (mask 0xffff)
set_control id=0x980900 reg=0x310110 val=0xff (mask 0xff)
set_control id=0x980903 reg=0x310118 val=0xff (mask 0xff)
tuner 1-0061: tuner type not set
tuner 1-0061: tuner type not set

do i have to manually set the tuner type? if so what's the argument?

Kernel Info:
# uname -a
Linux miles 2.6.16-gentoo-r12 #3 SMP PREEMPT Sun Jul 16 00:42:18 CDT 2006 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) MP 2400+ GNU/Linux

i'll keep diggin around but if anyone can give me a push in the right direction it would be appreciated.

Works for me.

Try 2.6.18-rc4, which has working 5500 drivers built in.

Also, try just loading the cx8800 module, you don't need the DVB drivers for tvtime, maybe there is some conflict?

thanks for the advice... i am actually as i saw that post recompiling 2.6.17-r4 which i setup not long after posting that message. didnt have much luck... coldplug or udev is loading up those DVB modules, perhaps i cant have them both loading at once. cx8800 loads but i had to specify the tuner param and its seeing the card as GENERIC/UNKNOWN. still i can get something of a kinda crappy picture in xawtv now... mythtv and tvtime still crap out but i think thats due to a video overlay issue. mplayer doesnt seem to have any problems grabbing the overlay in xv mode so i'm not sure what myth's issue is...

alas... the saga continues...
