After upgrading udev to any version >sys-fs/udev-079-r2 the firmware refuses to load and dmesg reports
Code:
or51132: Waiting for firmware upload(dvb-fe-or51132-vsb.fw)...
or51132: No firmware uploaded(timeout or file not found?)

Immediately after downgrading to sys-fs/udev-079-r2 everything is fine. Any suggestions for debugging? My solution has been to stay at 079-r2, but that just doesn't seem like the right solution.

Maybe they changed the place the firmware is kept? There are a couple directories that are commonly used.

Upgrading to the unstable sys-fs/udev-098 solved the problem.

(FYI, using Gentoo as a distribution.)

Just a note, I turned off the coldplug function of udev since it was loading everything even when not needed. However, the udev hotplug was not loading cx88_dvb.

I added a modprobe cx88_dvb line to my script to start the mythbackend and that solves the issue for now.

I suppose the proper thing would be to debug udev by enabling logging and seeing if attempting to access the card generates a udev event. However I have too many other projects first.
