I installed the card, and copied over the firmware.

When I attempt to run 'dtvsignal /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0' I receive the error: 'failed opening /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0'.

I read a post relating to udev rules and FC4 in the forum, however, as I'm running Ubuntu, I couldn't find the related files and/or lines of code needed
changing.

I have checked '/dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0' and it does exist.

I really don't know what to do at this point.

I am going to include dmesg and lspci -v:
lspci -v:

You have a non-HDTV related kernel module crashing your system. It looks like the asfd module is causing an OOPS! in the kernel. All bets are off once this happens. See if you can find information on that module to fix the issue. Sorry this isn't much more help that just pointing out where the problem is in your dmesg output.

When I attempt to run 'dtvsignal /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0' I receive the error: 'failed opening /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0'.

Are you sure that's the right syntax for dtvsignal? That's not how the version of dtvsignal that I have works.

Seems pretty obvious that you have some sort of problem with AFS running out of memory.

thanks for the tips.

I have removed openafs from my system and changed the command to be:

dtvsignal -dvb 0

I guess it helps if you check 'dtvsignal --help' instead of reading 2 year old mailing list posts :/
