I've already got an hd3k working with nvidia on an athlon 1.8 ghz CPU.

Results are fairly decent on that....

Wondering if I can get it going on a 1.4 GH tualatin...

Would playback of 1080i be all stuttery?

It would probably be ok. On my 1.533 GHz athlon using xvmc, playback of 1080i with mplayer only uses about 45% CPU. I don't think a 1.4 GHz Tualatin P3 is all that much slower. It's certainly more than half as fast. Without xvmc you won't have much of a chance.

The nvidia driver version seems to make a big difference with xvmc. Versions after 7676 have problems and use more CPU.

I'm running on an XP2200+ (I think the speed is somewhere around 1.8GHz) and it plays and records 1080i at the same time under Myth very well. Don't forget to set X to 24bpp.
