I just bought a hd5500 and it was a breeze setting it up to watch hdtv over the air. What i've been trying to do now is get it to work with cable as well.

The video is fine in mplayer, but the audio seems to be playing back at half speed. Here is the basic command i'm using:

mplayer -tv driver=v4l2:immediatemode=0:adevice=/dev/dsp1:audiorate=48000 tv://

I'm actually using more options, but they are irrevalent to the issue. Adding the option -speed 2 does help, but the audio is still choppy.

One error message I do get from mplayer is the following:

"Audio block size too low"

----------------------

I've actually gotten sox to play back the audio perfectly, but it can be flacky at times. Sometiems at startup the audio is slow and I need to restart the app. Also whenever I change channels in mplayer, sox crashes. Here is the command that I used:

sox -t ossdsp -r 48000 -b -c 2 /dev/dsp1 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp

Notice how even in sox I have a speed factor of 2.

---------------

Another thing I tried was using ALSA instead of OSS emulation, but the performance is even worse and I get the "Your computer is too slow" message.

--------------------

Does anyone know what could be causing the slowdown in the audio?

Here is what i'm working with

Gentoo 2006.1
Kernel 2.6.18
MPlayer 1.0pre8-4.1.1
cx88_alsa
