Putting together a HD-5500 setup on Vector Linux 5.8 Standard. Compiled the dvb-atsc-tools-ker2.6.18 after updating the kernel headers.

Missing /dev/dvb/ directory though.

$ dtvscan
dtvscan for kernel 2.6.18 - by Jack Kelliher (c) 2002,2005,2006
Attempting to open /dev/dtv
/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0: No such file or directory
failed opening any device

or

$ dtvsignal -d 0 43
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
ERROR: failed opening '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' (No such file or directory)

What's up? Did I miss a step?

Recompiled my 2.6.18 kernel to include the default 2.6.18 HD-5500 driver. Not sure how to use the drivers from this site though, so I can't use dtvsnr, but at least it works.

The topic I started at the Vector Linux forums, in case anyone is interested :

HD-5500 HTPC on Vector5.8Std

Will be posting a HowTo in the wiki for fellow Vector users. Will also be editing the troubleshooting guide there as well.

try this:

sudo modprobe cx88_dvb

This worked for me on Ubuntu...

If it works you might want to add it to your distro's equivalent of /etc/modules so that it happens automagically on boot.
