Hello,

Is anyone using a HD-2000 or HD-3000 with *BSD instead of Linux ?
pros/cons ? Any problems? I'm interested in:

a) capturing OTA HDTV broadcasts onto disk

b) capturing OTA NTSC broadcasts onto disk (if
I can't pull in HDTV for whatever reason)

c) D/A capture of NTSC composite and maybe s-video
onto disk

Is there any difference in the device driver for HD-2000 vs HD-3000 ?
(NetBSD has a driver for HD-2000 but doesn't mention the HD-3000
which is what is currently available.) Do the 2k and 3k use the
exact same chips?

The hd3k page says:

"One composite video and sound port"

This is an input? Mono? Stereo?

"One stereo connection jack to sound card for analog TV System"

It is not clear what this is used for? Input? Output?

I'm not sure if there is a NetBSD driver for the HD-3000 yet. The HD-3000 uses different chips than the HD-2000, so a driver for the 2000 won't work with the 3000.

As for audio jacks, there are two 1/8" stereo jacks on the card, one is for input (presumably for an audio track to go along with the composite or svideo input), the other is for output (NTSC audio when using the tuner, or audio from the input jack when using svideo or composite). The output is muted when the card is in ATSC mode.

I haven't found any mention of HD-3000 in NetBSD.
I haven't found any mention of HD-2000 or HD-3000 in FreeBSD or OpenBSD.

After googling awhile, my current theory is:

HD-2000 = Brooktree Bt848

HD-3000 = Oren Semiconductor OR51211 (ATSC HDTV)
Conexant CX23883 (NTSC)

Is this correct?

Googling for the Oren OR51211 finds almost nothing.

Does the HD-3000 do A/D on audio (from NTSC tuner or analog audio in),
or does it only output analog audio and you need additional hardware
("sound card" ?) to get digital audio?
Anyone using HD-2000 or HD-3000 with BSD ?
