I have read everything online I can and am stumped. If I can't fix this then I will have to return the card. BTW I am not a linux newbie.

I have installed the card on ASUS A8NSLI MB with the latest Kubuntu kernel 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP.

dmesg is:
$ dmesg |grep -i cx

the modules load and /dev/dvb/adaptor0 and contents are correctly made.

The card is directly connected to the wall outlet for the Time Warner Cable in Monroe NC. The outlet works with a regular TV.

1st problem. When I run scan
./scan -a /atsc/us-Cable-Standard-center-frequencies-QAM256 > channels.conf

I only get the following entries

[0008]:99000000:QAM_256:64:66:8
[0002]:99000000:QAM_256:67:68:2
[000d]:99000000:QAM_256:69:72:13

I have used every example freqency table and even created my own up to 100 ghz but still only get these entries.

when I use azap -q -c channels.conf "[0008]" I get the following output:
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'
tuning to 99000000 Hz
video pid 0x0040, audio pid 0x0042

but when I try to cat /dev/dvb/adaptor0/dvr0 > outputfile.mpeg I do not get a playable file, but it does have data.

I cannot get mplayer to play dvr0 directly either.

of interest I can only access the device file as root even though I am in the proper groups.

Why do I not have more channels and why can't this file be opened with mplayer/xine etc.

Please help.
