i also cant get the drivers to load. could someone walk me through the directions for installing the drivers for the card. or anything else I will need?

I'm still learning how to use linux, and I really don't want to turn to windows...

You may have a hard time using the pcHDTV card in Windows...

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Setup_MythTV

Have you gone through the setup process step by step?
I am having trouble getting it to display video. It should, I have scanned the local OTA channels, but there is something just not quite right with my setup.

You might also take a look at Freevo. If you can get Xine HD to work, I think Freevo just uses that player to display video.

I had the HD-3000 set up in WinXP, and some have set up the HD-5500.

You can use BeyondTV, but it is not free. You can get a 30-day free trial, just to see if it works. I used the free MediaPortal applicaton, and so did the ones that used the HD-5500.

There was a bit of configuring involved, but it was documented in the MP forums.

I haven't used MP in awhile, so I don't know how current versions work with the pcHDTV cards.

If you installed ubuntu gutsy then the drivers should be installed by default. For me, I needed to delete the capture card in myth, and recreate it as a DVB. Once I did that I could start scanning and capturing from myth.
