Well I tried to use Hardy instead of my older distro, and unfortunately the cx88 driver causes a kernel Oops during bootup. I can paste stack traces if anyone is interested.

Is anyone working to make sure the cards work with the latest kernels? Should I stick with Feisty which works perfectly for me (Linux Mint Celena) or is it worth the effort to try to make the latest kernel work?

Thanks,
Mark

Well, the best way to figure out a problem on your own is to post to a forum! I remember having this problem once before - it only seems to happen if you have two 5500's. The cx88-alsa driver goes berzerk.

There are two steps you need to take:

1) In /etc/modules, add:

cx88-dvb

2) In /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist add:

blacklist cx88-alsa

Now everything seems to be OK; it is scanning for channels successfully.
