unc errors switching channels

About 30% of the time, when I switch from one frequency to another using azap -r, I get tons of uncorrectable errors (more than 000000ff) and the transport stream is hopelessly corrupted. I end up stopping and starting it 2 or 3 times before it will lock in.

basically, I have an instance of azap -r running almost all the time. When I want to switch stations, I kill the existing instance and launch a new one. My environment is redhat linux 7 (soon going to 10). All of my tools were downloaded and compiled about 1 year ago.

questions --

Is there a 'nice' way to kill an azap? I'm using kill by pid

is there a way to tell the card to start fine tuning?

is there something else I can do in between killing the old instance of azap and starting the new one?
