Finally coming back to this after leaving the card on a shelf for a year. I still can't get this thing to work.

Working on a HD-2000 card in a new Fedora FC3 system. Kernel 2.6.11-1.27_FC3.

In the past, I've had conflicts with IVTV drivers, but for now, I have disabled loading of those drivers. Before installing the new pcHDTV drivers, the HD card was recognized at boot time. I've added bttv and bt878 to /etc/hotplug/blacklist to avoid loading at boot.

I've downloaded and installed the pcHDTV-2.0 drivers. I also did the "udev" make (I fixed the makefile so that it would actually install!).

Now, after boot, I manually modprobe cx88-dvb, but it doesn't seem to recognize the hardware.

From /var/log/messages:
Quote:

Jun 5 20:38:17 myth kernel: Linux video capture interface: v1.00
Jun 5 20:38:17 myth kernel: cx2388x v4l2 driver version 0.0.4 loaded
Jun 5 20:38:17 myth kernel: cx2388x dvb driver version 0.0.4 loaded

(That's it.)

In modprobe.conf, I've commented out the IVTV stuff to avoid conflict. Is there supposed to be one of those "alias" lines? I've tried with and without "alias char-major-81 cx88-dvb". (I've always considered these to be voodoo.)

Of course, none of the devices /dev/... are being created.

I've been working on this all day with no joy. Before I put the card back on the shelf for another year, someone please help!

P.S. This is a myth box. In the past, I was using Debian with a 2.4 kernel. I've converted to FC3 in hopes of getting this to work.

Perhaps this thread or this thread can provide some insight.

The problem is that you can't have both the v4l2 and dvb drivers loaded for the card.

maestro, thanks for the reply. I had already read those threads several times (as well as many others). I can't see that either talks about loading of v4l drivers.

I'll understand that I can't have both v4l2 and dvb, but all I'm doing is a modprobe of cx88-dvb and I get both messages in the log. How do I eliminate v4l2?

Also, you indicate that I can't have them both loaded "for the card". It doesn't appear that either is recognizing the card.

The 1.5 drivers refer to the driver as "bttv", not "cx8800".

Looking at bttv-cards.c, this seems to be the case in 2.0 also.

Sorry to be so dense, but I don't understand what you're getting at. I'm using the 2.0 drivers. bttv is not loaded (I blacklisted it). I'm not sure what cx8800 is.

It looks to me like bttv IS the driver for HD-2000; I would try unblacklisting it and load the 2.0 version.

OK. I guess that's right. In the "doc" directory (in the pcHDTV 2.0 drivers distribution) the installation readme is specific to the HD-3000. (Not obvious).

In any case, it looks like for the HD-2000, you need to use bttv as the driver.

Now I'm having another problem - video32 isn't being created, but I'll post that in a new thread. Thanks.
