To anyone using Fedora Core 4 who hasn't figured out how to let other users access the device created by udev I have a fix for the 50-udev.rules file.

Towards the bottom of the file you will see the line:
Code:
KERNEL=="dvb*", PROGRAM=="/etc/udev/scripts/dvb.sh %k", NAME="%c"

add a group entry on the end of this line for a group your users belong to like users or video so the the line now reads
Code:
KERNEL=="dvb*", PROGRAM=="/etc/udev/scripts/dvb.sh %k", NAME="%c", GROUP="video"

That changed it for me so I could access the card from a user other than root.

Rusty

p.s. as long as the user belonged to group video

I used the group "mythtv", which already matched my mythtv user instead of creating a new "video" group.

More importantly, I had to add a MODE paramater to mine as well, since for some reason I was getting the subdevices created as 0600 instead of 0660, so even with the group change, I was unable to access the device as mythtv:

Code:
KERNEL=="dvb*", PROGRAM=="/etc/udev/scripts/dvb.sh %k", NAME="%c", GROUP="mythtv", MODE="0660"

That fixed it, and My MythTV has been recording just fine ever since.
